Why Your Headlights Lose Their Shine

Unlike cars of years gone by, today’s headlights are made from Polycarbonate, a type of very tough plastic, that makes them ideal for deflecting stones and not cracking or breaking. However, they can suffer badly from the suns harsh UV rays and with continual exposure, they discolour. Car makers attempt to slow this process down by applying a UV protective Hard Coat, as they do to the paintwork on your car.

Whilst this does slow down the degrading process it doesn’t completely stop it. This is why you see so many cars out there with cloudy and yellow headlights

The good news is that we can restore your headlights to their former glory. Bright, shiny and clear headlights are the jewels set into the front of your car. They are the eyes that light up the whole design of the front end. With faded and yellowed lens your car will look dowdy and uncared for.

The key is in the preparation. What has to happen is to completely remove the old Clear Coat. We start by masking up the vehicle around the headlight extremities followed by machine buffing to make certain we remove all of the residual coating from the surface of the lens.

Once we have completed this process we apply a UV protectant to the light to afford greater protection against the sun and to ensure they give you the highest level of visibility.
